GM Announces Investment in Fort Wayne Plant

Since 2015, the General Motors Fort Wayne Assembly Plant in Indiana has had over $1.2 billion in investments to meet the growing demand of two of the bestselling vehicles from GM.

What’s Made in Fort Wayne

Both the Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Sierra are among the models assembled in Fort Wayne, and with sales of the two full-size pickup trucks growing, GM has invested another $24 million into the plant to meet demands. As with previous improvements to capacity, the facility’s new conveyor equipment and tools, set for completion this summer, will continue to increase production of these popular models, specifically the Crew Cab configuration.

“The team here at Fort Wayne has done an outstanding job helping us satisfy customers throughout this launch,” stated GM CEO Mary Barra. “Our product ramp-up was very smooth and the quality has been exceptional. Crew cab sales have been very strong, and we are expanding customer choice with new models, more cab choices, and innovative new powertrains.”

Success in Fort Wayne

Just this year, sales of the Silverado and Sierra crew cabs were up 20 percent. It’s easy to see why GM is eager to invest another $24 million into the successful plant.

Although no new jobs are in the plans, the Fort Wayne Assembly Plant already employs 4,230 hourly workers. A veritable army of workers to meet growing production demands.

Signs That You Need to Change Your Tires

Mechanic changing tire in shop.

Your tires are one of the main components keeping you safe when you’re behind the wheel. Keep them in top shape to ensure an efficient, comfortable, and safe drive.

Wear

Tires wear over time and depending on where they show signs of wear will give you insight on the cause. When a tire is overinflated, wear localizes in the center; when it is underinflated, wear is noticeable on the shoulder or outside of the tire.

Tread

Tread is what lets the tires grip the road. An easy way to check the tread on your tires is to take the penny test. By inserting a penny in the tread with Lincoln’s head down, you can determine if the tread has worn down too low if you see the top of Lincoln’s head poking out. If you can’t see the top of his head, you’re good to go for a while longer.

Cracks and blisters

Cracks running along the sidewall and bulges in the rubber are signs of tire degradation. It’s best to replace the tire as soon as possible to avoid a dangerous blowout.

Vibration

All vehicles have a little vibration while moving, but excessive vibration could be a sign of problems. More often than not, out-of-balance wheels can vibrate the vehicle. Ignoring an issue like that can lead to damage to the wheel, brakes, or axle.

The experts at the Mike Raisor Buick GMC Cadillac service department are able to assist in any of your tire maintenance or replacement needs.

Benefits of Having Hands-Free Liftgate

The hands-free power liftgate on the new 2019 Cadillac XT4 is a favorite benefit

Sometimes, it’s the little things that make all the difference. When shopping around for your next vehicle, you should keep an eye on its convenience features, as you’ll definitely notice and be thankful for them when using the vehicle to meet your everyday driving needs. One such feature you’ll be glad to have is a hands-free power liftgate.

What is a hands-free liftgate?

A hands-free liftgate is a feature that lets you open and close your vehicle’s rear liftgate with a wave of your foot. With a simple forward-back motion under the center of the rear bumper, the liftgate automatically opens, letting you easily load your luggage, groceries, or whatever else you’re carrying.

What are the benefits of a hands-free liftgate?

Put simply, a hands-free liftgate makes it easier to load cargo into your vehicle.

Additionally, this smart liftgate allows you to adjust the height it opens to, accommodating whatever height your garage is. The power liftgate has three settings: MAX, 3/4, and OFF. The MAX setting allows the liftgate to open fully, while the 3/4 setting only allows it to open three-quarters of the way – which is handy if you have a limited amount of space in your garage. The OFF setting turns off the liftgate’s automatic features, making it so you can only open the gate manually.

3 Tips to Keep Your Cadillac in Top Shape in Cold Weather

2019 Cadillac Escalade Premium in Cold Weather Lafayette, IN

Cold weather tends to hit unprepared or neglected cars the hardest, and that can result in a major headache for drivers. Check out these tips to keep your Cadillac in top shape in cold weather.

Coolant

Coolant, commonly known as antifreeze, keeps the engine from freezing up in cold weather. A vehicle low on coolant could be in trouble. Most dealership technicians recommend a 50/50 mix of coolant and water in the radiator. Mixing water with the coolant helps further lower the engine freezing point than coolant alone.

Battery

If a battery is weak during warmer weather, it’s very likely it will be a dead battery once cold temperatures roll around. A simple volt test can help determine if a battery is strong enough to survive winter. Drivers can keep their battery in working order by making sure its secure, tightening connections, and scraping any corrosion off the posts. If the battery is more than three or four years old, it may be best to replace it with a new one.

Tire Pressure

As cold weather rolls in, tire pressure tends to fall with the temperature. Low tire pressure can result in increased tire wear and a loss in traction. Keeping the tires properly inflated can help improve efficiency and grip on slick roadways.

2019 Cadillac XT4 Automatic Braking

Cadillac XT4 Automatic Braking | Mike Raisor Cadillac

The 2019 Cadillac XT4 is one of the safest crossovers on the market, partly thanks to its advanced Automatic Braking technology. Cadillac XT4 Automatic Braking can help you avoid collisions and keep you and your family safer on the road.

The XT4 is available with both Forward and Reverse Automatic Braking, so whether you’re in bumper-to-bumper traffic or you’re backing out of a parking spot, the system is there to help you out.

Forward Automatic Braking uses radar sensors to keep track of the distance between you and the car ahead of you and will engage the brakes for you when you get too close. Reverse Automatic Braking will hit the brakes if you’re backing up and an object or another car is behind you.

Automatic Braking will also warn you in advance that you’re at risk of a collision with red warning lights on the head-up display, giving you plenty of time to avoid the accident yourself before it takes over. If you have Safety Alert Seat, you will also hear warning beeps.

The Automatic Braking system even comes with Intelligent Brake Assist, which when you engage the brakes can boost your braking power and further help avoid an accident, or at least seriously reduce the severity of it.

New Year’s Resolutions for Your Cadillac

Get better gas mileage this year in a 2019 Cadillac CT6

The New Year offers us a clean slate. You can find new adventures, change old habits, or simply improve on the skills you’re already developing. At Mike Raisor Cadillac, we strive to improve our driving habits using some of these tips.

Improve Fuel Efficiency

A common New Year’s resolution is to save money. However, setting concrete and measurable goals can help you reach them. You can count how much money you spend on gas in a given year, and try to spend less than the year before. Opting for an eco-friendly vehicle like the 2018 Cadillac CT6 Plug-In Hybrid will help you save money on gas and save the planet.

On an everyday basis, remove any heavy or unnecessary items from your vehicle to reduce the payload. Pay close attention to your driving habits, too. If you find yourself with a lead foot, you may be burning gas faster than necessary.

Keep Your Cadillac Clean

Staying organized is a great goal to have for the New Year, and it doesn’t have to stop with your home. Having a clean, organized car will keep your mind clear, too. Invest in organization tools, such as a car trash can and an emergency kit for your trunk. Every time you fill up your gas tank, sort through the car for any trash and throw it out.

If you’re not ready to upgrade your vehicle just yet, make sure you bring it into Mike Raisor Cadillac for its regular maintenance. By keeping up with regular maintenance, you’ll reduce the risk of needing to spend money on costly repairs.
