Signs That You Need to Change Your Tires

Your tires are one of the main components keeping you safe when you’re behind the wheel. Keep them in top shape to ensure an efficient, comfortable, and safe drive.

Tires wear over time and depending on where they show signs of wear will give you insight on the cause. When a tire is overinflated, wear localizes in the center; when it is underinflated, wear is noticeable on the shoulder or outside of the tire.

Tread is what lets the tires grip the road. An easy way to check the tread on your tires is to take the penny test. By inserting a penny in the tread with Lincoln’s head down, you can determine if the tread has worn down too low if you see the top of Lincoln’s head poking out. If you can’t see the top of his head, you’re good to go for a while longer.

Cracks and blisters

Cracks running along the sidewall and bulges in the rubber are signs of tire degradation. It’s best to replace the tire as soon as possible to avoid a dangerous blowout.

All vehicles have a little vibration while moving, but excessive vibration could be a sign of problems. More often than not, out-of-balance wheels can vibrate the vehicle. Ignoring an issue like that can lead to damage to the wheel, brakes, or axle.
